GENERAL INFORMATION: 5 Things to do if you have an Apartment Complaint

Document your Complaint








6 Things To Do:
1. Send the evidence in a Certified Letter to your apartment
management.
Give them 7 days to fix it. If it applies, file a police report.

2. 2. Document everything. Make a conversation log, dates letters sent, police report dates and numbers, etc.

3. 3. At one week, send a second Certified Letter to your apartment management. File a complaint with your local Apartment Association. Give them 7 more days.

4.
You have the right to break the lease if the problems have not been fixed.
5. Escalate your complaint to the Texas Apartment Association www.taa.org or the TX Attorney General’s Office: http://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/tenants.shtml.

6. You may need the advice of an attorney or legal aid association.


3 Things NOT To Do:

1. 1. Don’t move out and break your lease.

2. 2. Don’t stop paying your rent.

3. 3. Don’t cause an altercation with apartment management.
